How I transitioned from practicing law to becoming a personal stylist for women attorneys?
My career evolved gradually. After years as a litigator, I moved into legal recruiting and career services, still within the legal field. While working with attorneys, I rediscovered my passion for style and began helping women with their wardrobes on the side. I noticed that professional women often struggled with confidence because they didn’t feel good in what they wore. What started as a passion project became a business focused on helping women lawyers use style strategically to project confidence, authority, and authenticity. Why do I describe style as a performance enhancer?
When clothes fit properly and feel authentic to the wearer, they remove distractions — both internal and external. Women who are uncomfortable in their clothing may fidget, adjust, or second-guess their appearance, taking focus away from their work. Confident, well-fitting outfits allow women to concentrate fully, present themselves with authority, and reduce visual distractions for colleagues, clients, and judges.
How can professional women use style to increase visibility and presence at work?
Impeccably fitting clothes can transform how women show up in professional spaces. When women feel confident in their appearance, they project authority, stand taller, and radiate confidence — making them harder to overlook. In contrast, poorly chosen outfits can make professionals feel invisible or hesitant, limiting impact and presence.
Is there a proven link between clothing and confidence?
Yes. The right outfit can shift a woman’s entire mindset and energy. Many professionals refer to certain pieces as their “lucky power suits” because of how empowered they feel while wearing them. Conversely, ill-fitting or unflattering clothes can lead to self-doubt and diminished performance throughout the day.
What would I say to women who view fashion as superficial or indulgent?
Style is strategic communication. First impressions are formed within seconds, and what a professional wears is a major part of that nonverbal message. Clothing either advocates on a professional’s behalf or works against them. When seen through the lens of advocacy, style becomes a practical tool, not an indulgence.
Can style also be considered a form of self-care?
Absolutely. I remember how I felt during the COVID-19 remote work period. Even when no one else saw me, how I dressed affected how I felt about myself. Taking time to wear clothes that felt flattering improved my mood and self-perception. Dress well for yourself, not just for others — as a daily act of valuing and investing in yourself. Why is it harmful to delay buying clothes until after losing weight?
Waiting to purchase clothes until reaching a future weight often leads to punishment and diminished confidence. Women either squeeze into too-small clothing or hide in oversized garments — neither of which flatters nor supports professional presence. My advice: accept and dress for the body you have now. Feeling worthy today is empowering and positively affects both mindset and performance.
What transformations have I seen among my clients?
I have seen my clients go from feeling overlooked or lacking personal identity to showing up with authority, confidence, and renewed joy. One client — a law firm partner and mother of two — rediscovered her individuality and professional presence through bold, tailored looks that reflected her personality while commanding respect.
