October 19, 2024- Dressing Well Impacts Your Bottom Line
Did you know that what you wear can actually impact how well you perform at work?
In a study by cognitive psychologists Adam and Galinsky, participants were given identical white coats to wear.
Half were told it was a doctor’s coat, and the other half were told it was a painter’s coat. The group wearing the “doctor’s coat” outperformed the others on various tasks.
This is called enclothed cognition—the idea that what we wear affects how we think and act.
If you want to improve your performance or position yourself for a promotion, start with your wardrobe.
Wear clothes that make you feel confident and powerful, and you’ll show up ready to win.
The blue and pink windowpane pantsuit that I wore to speak at a recent conference pictured above made me feel powerful and confident.
